Comparison of LQR and H1 Algorithms for Vibration Control of Structures in Seismic Zones

چکیده
This paper presents the ndings of a study devoted to a comparison of the eeective-ness of Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and H 1 control for structures subjected to earthquake loadings. Research in the eld of active structural control has received much attention over the past few years, with the majority of eeorts focusing on formulation and application of the LQR-based control algorithms. Because of various drawbacks associated with the LQR algorithms, such as inability to account for time variant structural properties and the time history of the loading, other control algorithms such as H 1 have been investigated as viable alternative control algorithms for application to civil structures. In this study, a comparison is made between the LQR and H 1 algorithms based on application of each algorithm to an actively controlled 33-story structure. This structure , located in Tokyo, is equipped with two rooftop active mass dampers (AMD's) capable of eeectively increasing damping and controlling vibratory behavior in four vibration modes. Comparisons of the control algorithms are performed on shear building representations ((ve degrees-of-freedom) of the structure. Both actuator eeort and vibration reduction under small to medium earthquake excitations are considered in this discussion. Additional studies are performed to investigate the robustness of the control scheme considering non-linear actuator saturation eeects and time varying uncertainties in the structural parameters.

In this paper a new approach to formulation of active control of structures based on energy concepts and use of Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) has been proposed. The suggested method eliminates the trial and error procedure in finding appropriate gain matrices in active control of structures. In this method the gain matrix is obtained by considering the energy of the structure and it remains ...

The Sirri jacket offshore platform was designed and installed in Persian gulf of Iran in 1975 and has been in service since that time. The importance of offshore structure's stability and the failure of this kind of structure during an earthquake in different active zones revealed that earthquake loading has to be considered. In this paper, Magnetorheological (MR) fluid dampers have been propos...

In this study, the application of type-1 and type-2 fuzzy inference system (FIS) in semi-active seismic vibration control of the College Bridge using magnetorheological (MR) dampers is investigated. For this purpose, a detailed 3D finite element model of the bridge fitted with MR dampers is created in OpenSees. The command voltage of MR dampers is determined by employing both types of FISs in M...

Because of difficulty in inspection and retrofit of foundation in comparison with other elements, the common design philosophy is to avoid any nonlinear deformation in the foundation. This paper shows that by employing controlled foundation nonlinearity, in predetermined sections with arrangements for inspection and retrofit, it is possible to reduce seismic demand on superstructure. Localizing...
